Message from the State Regent
Connie Haynsworth Grund
Welcome to the Alabama Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) web site! You are invited to learn about our organization and how you can become a member in this outstanding women's volunteer service group founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D. C.
Our members are lineal descendants of the men and women patriots who founded this country. We continue to advance the ideals on which our country was founded by volunteer service in promoting patriotism, historic preservation and education.
Our state society, founded in 1894, consists of over 4,000 members in 72 chapters and we are proud to be a part of the 170,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the United States and in twelve countries.
Alabama is honored to provide service through the leadership of our four districts directors, state chairmen, vice chairmen and chapter regents. Our five Mobile area chapters manage the Richards DAR House Museum and all our chapters help support the mission at the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School in Grant, Alabama.
We promote patriotism by teaching proper Flag etiquette, supporting our active duty military as well as our veterans in homes and hospitals across the state, and honoring all those who serve. We support education in our schools through historic field trips, essay contests, scholarships, library donations, promoting literacy, environmental education and civic education. We support historic preservation through research and documentation, being docents at historic sites, erecting historic markers and grave markers, financial contributions and awards.
The Daughters of the American Revolution cannot do it all, so in addition to our service, we seek out and recognize others in our communities that demonstrate the same ideals and goals that we hold so dear. Thank you to all the community volunteers that make Alabama such a special place to live.
We encourage membership for our children and grandchildren in the Alabama Society Children of the American Revolution so they will be good citizens and prepared to become the future members and leaders of the DAR and SAR.
Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Psalms 103:20
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
